We are proud to announce that Ashley Longstreet from our Alton Bluffs home has been named DSP of the Year at Residential Options. Her dedication to person-centered care, leadership, and community involvement has earned her this well-deserved honor.

Person-Centered Care

Ashley’s approach to supporting individuals at Alton Bluffs goes far beyond the usual responsibilities. One shining example of her commitment is how she supports individuals through their toughest moments with immense patience and creativity. One individual frequently experiences hallucinations of a werewolf outside their window, which can be distressing. Instead of dismissing concerns, Ashley goes outside and “fights” the werewolf, even using disinfectant spray as a makeshift wolf repellent. To this day, this individual relies on Ashley for comfort during these difficult times, a testament to her deep understanding of each person’s unique needs.

Building and Fostering Relationships in the Community

Ashley’s dedication to fostering community involvement is nothing short of inspiring. Recognizing how much her clients missed attending church, she took it upon herself to reconnect them with a local congregation. Even on her days off, Ashley ensures her residents can participate in Sunday services, helping them become active and valued members of their faith community. Her commitment extends beyond her job description, showing how much she values the emotional and social well-being of those she supports.

The bond Ashley has built with the individuals she supports is irreplaceable. It’s not uncommon for her absence, even for a single day, to spark the question, “When is Ashley coming back?” This sense of connection and reliance speaks to the deep relationships she nurtures. Her clients feel safe, loved, and supported, which is the cornerstone of person-centered care.

Leadership and Innovation

Ashley is not only a DSP but a true leader at Alton Bluffs. She provides guidance, instruction, and active listening to her coworkers, ensuring that the mission of serving individuals is always at the forefront. Whether it’s stepping up during challenging times or leading by example, Ashley’s leadership fosters a team environment that prioritizes the well-being of the individuals we serve.

Challenges are a part of daily life at Alton Bluffs, but Ashley’s ability to think outside the box sets her apart. When transportation or staffing issues arise, she’s the first to volunteer her time or even use her personal vehicle to ensure that individuals can attend important appointments or community outings. Ashley’s proactive and solution-oriented mindset ensures that individuals never miss out on meaningful opportunities.

A Deserving Recipient

Ashley’s commitment to person-centered care, leadership, and community involvement has made her an outstanding Direct Support Professional. We are proud to celebrate her as the Residential Options DSP of the Year. Thank you, Ashley, for everything you do!
