Celebrating Stacey Springman: 30 Years of Dedication and Growth at Challenge Unlimited
A Journey of Growth and Dedication
January 15, 1995—Stacey Springman’s first day at Challenge Unlimited—feels like a lifetime ago, and in many ways, it is. Over the past 30 years, Stacey has been a constant, steady presence while the world, and Challenge Unlimited, has changed in remarkable ways. From her first role on the production team to her current position as the friendly face of the Alton Skills Training Center front office, Stacey has dedicated herself to the work she loves and the people she serves.
From Production Team to Administrative Support
When Stacey joined the team in 1995, Challenge Unlimited’s programs looked very different. Back then, the organization was heavily focused on production work, and Stacey excelled on a variety of contracts. As times changed, so did the opportunities. Recognizing her potential, Stacey was trained as a receptionist for the Alton Developmental Training Center, mastering skills like answering phones and handling transportation communications. This shift marked just one of the many evolutions in her career—and in the services Challenge Unlimited provides.
As technology transformed workplaces and community support systems grew, Challenge Unlimited expanded its mission to offer a wider range of services and opportunities. Stacey’s journey reflected this growth. After working at Alpha Industries in Granite City and later returning to the Alton Skills Training Center, Stacey embraced new challenges and responsibilities with the same dedication and enthusiasm she’s always shown.
A New Chapter: Promotion to Administrative Support
In January 2022, Stacey achieved an exciting milestone when she was promoted to Administrative Support at the Alton Skills Training Center. This role allowed her to take on new responsibilities, including greeting visitors, managing attendance documentation, tracking inventory, and assisting with front office operations.
Stacey’s promotion has been more than just a change in title— her 2022 promotion to Administrative Support was a turning point in her career. In this role, Stacey manages attendance records, tracks inventory and greets everyone who walks through the door with a smile. Her work not only keeps the office running smoothly but also shows how much she values being part of the team.
This promotion also gave Stacey greater independence, both personally and professionally. She’s taken on new responsibilities that allow her attention to detail and organization skills to shine. Stacey’s growth over the years highlights the opportunities for upward mobility and empowerment that Challenge Unlimited provides.
How Challenge Unlimited Has Evolved Over 30 Years
Think about how much has changed since 1995. Back then, computers were bulky and slow, social media didn’t exist, and the idea of inclusion in the workplace was just starting to gain momentum. It’s incredible to see how much has changed since Stacey’s first day in 1995. Today, technology, workplace culture, and opportunities for individuals with disabilities have grown and transformed—and Stacey has been there through it all.
Challenge Unlimited itself has come a long way, expanding its programs and services to provide more opportunities for growth and independence. Stacey’s journey mirrors this progress, showing how our mission has impacted not just the community but the lives of dedicated employees like her.
A Positive Force for Change
Reflecting on Stacey’s contributions, Susan Wild, Director of CU Skills Training Centers, shared:
“Stacey is such an important part of Challenge Unlimited’s story. She gives 100% effort at everything she does and takes pride in ensuring that everything is handled appropriately. Whether it was the years spent in production or time in the front office as the person greeting everyone coming through the door, Stacey has always valued her work and being part of the team at Challenge Unlimited. We are so fortunate to have someone has dedicated and invested in her job as Stacey continues to be after 30 years of service.“
Looking Ahead: Stacey’s Legacy
Stacey’s 30-year career is an inspiring example of what’s possible when opportunity meets hard work. Her dedication and growth reflect the values at the heart of Challenge Unlimited’s mission—creating meaningful work opportunities that empower individuals to grow, thrive, and achieve greater independence.
