Challenge Unlimited Employee Chosen to Meet with Members of Congress
We are proud to share that Quality Manager, Sandra Salgado was among approximately 60 individuals selected from across the nation to attend the annual SourceAmerica® Grassroots Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C., September 9 – 12, 2024.
During the event, Sandra spent four days sharing her employment story and meeting with members of Congress to advocate for better job opportunities for people with disabilities. The conference is especially timely since the CDC recently revealed that more than 1 in 4 – over 70 million – adults in the United States reported having a disability.
Among those she met were the staffers of Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth and Illinois Representative Brad Schnieder.
“I enjoy advocating for such a great cause. I am forever grateful for the AbilityOne Program and for everything Challenge Unlimited has done for me and my family.” said Salgado.
SourceAmerica, an AbilityOne® authorized enterprise that creates employment opportunities for people with disabilities, and this is not the first time that Sandra has been selected by Challenge Unlimited to advocate on Capitol Hill. She previously attended the conference and has become a valuable self-advocate for the program and for all people overcoming barriers to employment.
“Sandra’s dedication to advocating for individuals with disabilities is truly inspiring. Her work, both at Challenge Unlimited and on Capitol Hill, highlights the power of self-advocacy and the importance of inclusive employment opportunities. We are proud to have her represent our organization and the many individuals we support,” said Charlotte Hammond, CEO of Challenge Unlimited.
The annual SourceAmerica Grassroots Advocacy Conference brings nonprofit agency leaders and employees from across the United States to meet with members of Congress to help shape employment policies. In addition, attendees discussed employment barriers in their communities and how the AbilityOne Program, one of the largest sources of employment for people who are blind or have significant disabilities, has played a role in their employment journey.
