RO Residents Attend 2025 Speak Up and Speak Out Summit

ALL ABOARD! RO Residents at the Alton, IL Amtrak Station preparing to travel to Bloomington, IL for the Speak Up and Speak Out Summit
Fifteen individuals from Residential Options, Inc. (RO) attended the Speak Up and Speak Out Summit, and 3 days hybrid conference that aims to empower individuals with disabilities to reach their full potential by advocate for their rights in education, employment, and community living.
The summit took place September 1-3 in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. There, the residents took part in activities and workshops and connected with others. “It was a lot of fun,” said Victoria, a RO resident. Victoria liked hearing the different speakers talk about advocacy, particularly the other summit participants who talked about how they spoke up for themselves in their lives.
The Speak Up and Speak Out Summit was a powerful reminder of the importance of self-advocacy and community. As participants returned home, they carried with them new inspiration and practical tools to help shape a more inclusive future for all. At the September board meeting, Trisha and Bill shared the speeches they delivered at the summit, giving board members a firsthand glimpse into their experiences and advocacy efforts. Moments like these reinforce our commitment to listening, learning, and creating spaces where every voice matters.
